How often does a piano need to be tuned? And why?
Laurie Reynolds
I have been teaching piano lessons for over 30 years and I wouldn’t have anyone else tune and repair my piano. I have recommended Sean to my students as well. Quite a few have purchased used pianos over the years and Sean is always able to get each piano tuned properly and efficiently. My piano is over 50 years old and because it is played for hours every day it gets a lot of wear and tear. Sean has reshaped the piano hammers and adjusted the action and touch regulation which has improved the sound quality and made the keys move more smoothly and evenly. I trust and recommend Sean for all piano repairs and tuning.

Adjustments, Repairs & Evaluations
There is a $75min for service calls. After the first hour the $75p/h rate is pro-rated by the minute.
In-home services would include things like: Evaluation for appraisals, insurance purposes, buying/selling; sticking keys, pedals & other mechanical adjustments; noise elimination; soundboard repair; hammer voicing & reshaping…
Routine Tuning
A “routine” tuning is a single pass through the piano making it musically in tune with itself, regardless of its pitch level.
In other words, the piano will be in tune with itself; musical and playable. However, it may not be in tune with other instruments, recorded music, etc., in relation to standard A440 (The American Standards Association established 440 as standard pitch in 1936.)
Piano tuning does not include mechanical adjustments.
Routine tuning appointments are $195 flat rate. A day-rate discount is offered for appointments scheduled M-F up to 3:00pm. Morning appointments are preferred. $180 is my current day-rate. Sunday tuning appointments are double my regular routine tuning fee, $360.
Pitch-Raise Tuning
If your piano is not at the standard A440 pitch level, AND you require that the piano be tuned to A440, this process (pitch-raising) takes longer, requiring more than one routine pass.
A pitch-raise is $255 total flat-rate M-F until 3:00 - $275 eve’s & Saturday - $465 Sunday.
Professional Cleaning
Pianos accumulate much dust over the years. A thorough, professional cleaning of the inside of your piano can reduce grit, other particles & items that have fallen inside that add to the wear-and-tear on your instrument.
A professional piano cleaning involves removing exterior parts of the piano (and for grand pianos; the keys/hammers) & thoroughly vacuuming the inside, behind/under the strings and moving parts such as keys & hammers.
Cleaning by itself: tuning rates apply ($175 M-F, 3:00 / $195 eve/sat / $390 Sunday)
w/Tuning Service: + $95 ($270 total w/tuning)
